Frequently Asked Questions

1. How far in advance should I plan my pet's international travel?

The lead time depends entirely on the destination. For countries with strict sanitary protocols — such as Australia, New Zealand, Japan, or South Africa — we recommend starting the process 4 to 6 months in advance. This timeframe is essential to comply with vaccination deadlines, blood titer tests (rabies antibody testing), and legally required quarantines.

However, for destinations with more flexible regulations, Pet Trips is known for its agility. For Brazil, for instance, if the documentation is already in order, we can complete the boarding process in as little as 7 days.

Regardless of the destination, our advice is: contact us as soon as you start planning. We will analyze your pet's history to define the fastest and safest route.

2. What documents are required for international pet transport?

Documentation varies by country, but generally includes an EU Pet Passport (or equivalent), updated vaccination records, microchip implantation, and an International Health Certificate (IHC/CVI). Pet Trips handles all the paperwork and bureaucracy to ensure there are no unforeseen problems, both at the origin and at the destination.

3. Will my pet fly in the cabin or the cargo hold? Is it safe?

Safety is our non-negotiable priority. All long-distance international transport is done without climate-controlled cargo compartment, which maintains the same pressure and temperature as the passenger cabin, strictly following IATA Live Animals Regulations (LAR). Our team monitors every stage to ensure your pet travels with maximum comfort and zero stress.

4. Does Pet Trips offer door-to-door service in Portugal and abroad?

Yes. As global logistics specialists, we provide a Premium Door-to-Door service. We can collect your pet from your residence (in Lisbon, Porto, or any other location) and deliver them to their final destination anywhere in the world, managing all ground and air logistics.

5. How do you handle the transport of exotic or zoo animals?

Through the legacy of MM Cargo, we have over 15 years of expertise in the transport of wildlife and exotic species. These operations require specialized crates and specific CITES licenses. We are one of the few companies in Portugal with the technical capacity to manage such high-complexity logistics.
